Another Town of Jackson well contaminated

Building:

The number of private wells in the town confirmed to be contaminated with gasoline from a pipeline break last week rose to four on Friday as state environmental officials said they were more than doubling the number of wells being tested daily.

Tests of a water sample collected Wednesday found unsafe levels of benzene in a well in the 1900 block of Western Ave., said Scott Ferguson, spills coordinator for the state Department of Natural Resources in Milwaukee. The well contains 56 parts per billion of benzene, more than 11 times the federal safe drinking water standard of 5 parts per billion for the chemical.
