Brown Deer hires independent investigator for police audit

Brown Deer will have an independent review of the village Police Department’s response to repeated calls to investigate domestic violence at the home of Brookfield spa shooter Radcliffe Haughton, an official announced Friday.

The village has hired Robert C. Willis, a law enforcement teacher at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College and former officer in the New Berlin Police Department. But Willis does not have expertise in domestic violence cases, which concerns victim advocates.

The Police Department has come under fire for how officers responded to nearly two dozen calls at the Haughton home going back more than a decade.
