How a longer GOP presidential race could make for a meaningful Wisconsin primary

Even though Wisconsin’s primary is more than two months away, there are big lulls in those two months, which could serve to extend the race. After the Nevada Caucuses Feb. 4, there’s a three-week gap before Michigan and Arizona vote Feb. 28. Super Tuesday (which includes Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Virginia) is March 6. But the schedule is fairly light for the rest of March, with primaries in Illinois and Louisiana and scattered caucuses elsewhere. Wisconsin shares its April 3 date with Maryland, DC and at the moment, Texas, though the Texas date has shifted once and could change again because of a legal fight over redistricting there.
