Milwaukee picks biased consultant to audit its crime data

A consultant group that is the citys choice to conduct an independent audit of Milwaukee police crime data has publicly supported the Police Department in recent months, raising questions about the objectivity of their review.

The Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission plans to spend roughly $25,000 to hire PRI Management Group, founded in 2008 by Edward Claughton, who is a police lieutenant with the Coral Gables Police Department in Florida.

In more than a dozen Twitter and blog posts since a Journal Sentinel investigation found flaws with the citys crime data, PRI Management Group has praised Police Chief Edward Flynn and criticized the papers reporting.
