The good intentions of liberals (they were going to end poverty) contributed to urban decline. It pains me to see the pattern repeated. This time the good intentions of conservatives (they’re going to protect the taxpayer) are just as likely to contribute to urban decline, unless policies are examined in light of shared history and pragmatism rather than ideological purity. No state has ever led itself out of a recession by facilitating the decline of its major city.
