US Dept of Justice considers investigations into Milwaukee police department

[U.S. Attorney James Santelle] confirmed he would review the circumstances surrounding Williams’ death after NAACP President James Hall and a dozen members of the Milwaukee Common Council said a squad video of the death of Williams, 22 – who continually told police he could not breathe for at least 15 minutes before he died – raised serious questions about earlier inquiries that cleared the officers involved of wrongdoing.

The video, which shows a suffocating Williams begging for help from the back of a squad car as officers ignore his pleas, was released to the Journal Sentinel last week after 10 months of requests under the state open records law. It was posted at JSOnline on Sunday.
