On July 22, the Party filed a complaint with the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board alleging that a full-page ad from Trek Bicycle Company defending itself against attacks by Walker — that notably didn’t include express advocacy — should be considered an illegal contribution to the campaign of Walker’s opponent, Mary Burke.
In other words, unless the Wisconsin GOP knowingly filed a frivolous complaint — which could subject it to penalties under Wisconsin law — the Republican Party appears to have acknowledged that the John Doe investigation has legal merit.
