FBI, DCI to investigate ex-Watertown fire chief

Some of it — maybe, perhaps, just possibly…

The FBI and the state Department of Criminal Investigation have been asked to investigate former Watertown Fire Chief Henry Butts after city police here found $45,500 in cash in the chief’s office during an internal investigation of misconduct.

Butts told police the cash, primarily $100 bills found in an attaché case during a search of his office, came from gambling, but Mayor Ron Krueger says he has his doubts. He declined to say how Butts would have obtained the funds.

“I don’t know that it all is, but I believe that some of it probably is public money,” Krueger said.
