Julaine Appling of Wisconsin Family Action — who helped push through the gay marriage ban — asked the state Supreme Court that year to immediately rule that the registries violated the state constitution. The Supreme Court refused to take up the case then, and she brought a separate lawsuit making the same claim in September 2010 in Dane County Circuit Court.
